Based in Columbus, Ohio, the Blue Jackets compete in the NHL and are members of the Metropolitan Division of the franchise’s Eastern Conference. The team’s unique team name is inspired by the state’s Civil War history. Originally founded in 2000 as an expansion team, they did manage to pull off a nearly impossible feat by qualifying for the Stanley Cup playoffs for the very first time back in 2009. All home games are played at the Nationwide Arena located in downtown Columbus which too like the team was inaugurated in 2000.
