What is the Best Internet For Cord Cutters in 2019?

Interested in making the jump into cord cutting but want to make sure you have enough internet to stream and download your favorite movies and TV shows? The below review of the best internet for cutting the cord in 2019 should help you find exactly what you’re looking for:

How much internet speed do cord cutters need?

If you’re looking to make sure your videos stream crisp, with minimal buffering, here are the recommended download speeds for your internet service:

  • The bare minimum: 5Mbps download speeds. This will be enough for one device to stream a show in HD quality with minimal buffering. You might notice during heavy internet traffic that things slow down a bit at this speed.
  • The recommended amount: 25Mbps download speeds. This will be enough to run up to three HD streams or one Ultra HD stream in the same household. At this point, with the demands the average household puts on an internet connection, we recommend looking for an ISP that offers at least 25Mbps download speeds.
  • Ultra HD recommendations: 50Mbps download speeds. If you’re a big gamer/streamer/live with multiple people all who need fast internet, look for an ISP that offers at least 50Mbps to make sure your service interruptions are minimal.

(Mbps stands for megabytes per second, and is the metric used to benchmark internet download speeds)

Do I need to bundle my internet with a TV package?

You might find that when you’re signing up for internet, the company you’re talking with might pitch you on a bundle. The deal might seem like a good idea at first, but keep in mind, the introductory price is most likely going to jump up in price at the end of the first year. So that $99 for TV/internet price could easily end up being $200 the second year, etc.

All ISPs will have an internet-only option available for a cheaper price than the bundle when you consider the length of your contract. Although, as BGR points out, internet is getting more expensive, especially as more people switch to cord cutting. In order to make up for lost profits, some ISPs have been caught increasing the price for their internet-only offerings.
