Laying out the premise, nothing sounds particularly unique about Catastrophe on the surface. An American man meets an Irish woman, an accidental pregnancy keeps him around. But Delaney and Horgan, both masters of the comedic scene, lead this in directions unexpected with each episode.

Catastrophe reviews have been very positive (spoiler alert), and should do well stateside, where these types of romantic comedies have been doing quite well. Amazon Prime has been trying to find some more success with its own exclusive offerings, and names like Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney should bring in a target demographic that Amazon Prime would love to get more of, the younger 18-49 eyeballs most familiar with Delaney’s comedy.

For those of you more in favor of the romantic side of romcom, don’t worry, Catastrophe develops nicely over the course of the first season into that genre. The season feels like a Judd Apatow film extended, which should read more as a compliment than an insult as Catastrophe should appeal broadly.

Catastrophe premiered in January 2015 on Channel 4 in the UK, and will be premiering on Amazon Instant Video June 19th, watch the trailer below:
