The Edmonton Oilers are based in Edmonton, Alberta and are members of the NHL’s Pacific Division. Originally founded back in 1971, the team played it’s very first season in 1972 since it was part of the initial twelve founding franchises of the WHA. The team was supposed to be one of the two teams to be based in Alberta the other one being the Calgary Broncos. But the Broncos later relocated to Cleveland before even starting the first season which led to the Oilers being renamed to the Alberta Oilers. Later the Oilers joined the NHL as one of the four franchises introduced via the merger with the WHA. The Oilers then put on a stellar performance by winning the Stanley Cup five times i.e. during the 1983-84, 184-85, 1986-87-1987-88 and the 1989-90 seasons. Interestingly, this is the most number of championships won by any team in the NHL since its merger with the WHA. The Edmonton Oilers are credited with winning the most Cups since the expansion in 1967. The Oilers share a division with the Ducks, Flames, Coyotes, Kings, Sharks and Canucks.
