Green Eggs and Ham, Sam I am? Netflix signs exclusive rights to children’s show

You’d be pretty hard pressed to find anyone who didn’t enjoy the whimsical writing of Dr. Seuss as a child, and in most cases even moving into adulthood.

And most notably Green Eggs and Ham, an instant classic known globally for the misadventures of a young unnamed character that chooses to not accept a risk of the unknown until the pestering Sam-I-Am finally convinces him to try some delicious green eggs and ham.

Deadline is reporting that Netflix has purchased the rights to a Green Eggs and Ham television show, directed at children, set to release within the next three years. As an added bonus the famed Ellen Degeneres will be producing the series, bringing not only a great children’s book to the screen, but also adding some star power behind its production.

The show has been in limbo for several years now, and I can’t imagine it’s easy to navigate the distribution rights of one of the world’s most famous children’s books. A lot of invested parties on all levels with this one, but still very exciting to hear the reality of this show being released is nearing.

Netflix has put a lot of focus into children’s entertainment lately, and I fully expect this type of content to continue expanding in the near future as children’s entertainment availability on the go via any streaming device will certainly encourage more subscription growth for the service.

The press release from Netflix is well worth a read:
