Netflix has reached a deal for 18th century-focused drama ‘Frontier.’ The Discovery Canada series, the first original scripted show for the network, will be on Netflix in 2018.

The series will focus on an often-overlooked time in North American history, specifically on the development of the fur trade.

“With its fast paced action, Frontier offers richly drawn characters set in the untamed world of the fur trade. It’s the perfect fit for our audience,” said Edwina Follows, Director of Commissioning and Production, Discovery Networks Canada. “Discovery Canada is pleased to be working with Take the Shot on this exciting new exploit into scripted series television.”

According to the show’s original press release:

“Frontier is an action-packed adventure drama following the chaotic and violent struggle to control wealth and power in the North American fur trade in the late 18th century. Told from multiple perspectives, Frontier takes place in a world where business negotiations might be resolved with close-quarter hatchet fights, and where delicate relations between Native tribes and Europeans can spark bloody conflicts.”
