Hulu Renews Original Series ‘Casual’ For Second Season

Hulu has just announced that they will renew their comedy-drama original series ‘Casual’ for a second season.

The series, following a brother and sister both supporting one another through their complicated lives, has been a moderate success, at least critically, for Hulu, and after today’s announcement has seemingly impressed Hulu enough to warrant a renewal.

Our review of the first season is that it certainly hits on a number of high notes, while being a show not destined for mass audiences. This is probably great in the short term, as Hulu builds an original show list, but comments from CEO Mike Hopkins recently have hinted they are looking for that huge original series. The pressure to nail one is likely building up internally as it could be a major growth opportunity for the service.

Regardless, ‘Casual’ season two is certainly a great opportunity to develop another series alongside the hilarious ‘Difficult People’ which has also been renewed for a second season. Shows like ‘Casual’ certainly need time to breath, and we’re happy to see Hulu giving them such an opportunity as there is no doubt the potential is there.

“Casual really struck a chord,” said Craig Erwich, SVP, Head of Content, Hulu. “We couldn’t be prouder of the quality, and we’re thrilled to see it be recognized for the success that it is.”

“It’s a rare joy to get to work with the people you love. We’re so fortunate to get to do it again and to have the chance to further explore the world of our unconventional family,” said creator Zander Lehmann.

No word on a release date yet, we’re guessing sometime in late 2016.
